Venerable Sayadaw U Kosฤla
(1913-2002)

Do you have greed, anger, expectations, or aversion in that mind that is meditating? Can you see in your mind as you are meditating your own attitudes, your own mindsets, views opinions and ideas in that mind? If you don’t, you are not really practicing.

If you are practicing with the wrong attitude, for example, and you are not aware of it in your own mind you won’t be effective in your practice.

If you check the mind regularly then it tends to be calm because you are always checking it.

Those who practice Cittanupassana — awareness of thoughts arising  — see the hidden side of their minds more. They see the defilements and this is important because only if you see your own defilements you know how to note and deal with the defilements when they arise in the mind.

This is very important.
