The World We Live In


Commenting on a TV commercial viewed recently ...

There's a well known consortium of Caribbean resorts whose advertising typically depicts unaveragely good looking, mostly white vacationers being enthusiastically waited on hand and foot by smiling, eager dark skinned servers; most likely they're locals, residents of the island.

That is bothersome in itself. But wait, I'm getting to it.

We hear off screen the distinctive voice of actress Wendy Malick while a scene of a happy crowded bar is shown. She invitingly chortles, "... drink to your heart's content!" 

Heart's content. Indeed. Heart's content? 

In case you don't get the ironic lopsidedness of that proposition, that makes as much sense to me as someone trying to sell you on the benefits of pounding your head against the wall ... to your heart's content.
