C'mon ... just a bunch of folks all dressed up looking festive, and having fun*. Oh, you say, looks a lot like the arrangement of the Last Supper. C'mon ... lots of people sit at tables . Besides that Blue Man clearly is a Dionysian reference. You be seeing things! C'mon. Besides, you Christians, wake the fuck up. Such easily offended Karens. We wanna be who we are, not who you want us to be. Be like Christ? They killed him ... who wants that?

Stop. So you say that group is not a representation of the Last Supper, but the Blue Man is a representation of a  f#@king  Dionesian orgy?  You wanna have it both ways? Or, it seems, you wanna have it any way you wanna have it. And, if enough people wanna have it a certain same way, and they are in the majority, and/or loud enough, that that's the way it is? Really. That does seem to be the zeitgeist around now in this politically incendiary moment in the Presidential election of 2024 in the US of A. Smacks of more than a bit of proto-totalitarian mentality. The majority rules does not mean the majority gets to lord it over the minority. But, it seems, when you 're cock-sure-right-as-rain, then maybe you do in fact get to lord it over. [Funny how the oh-so righteous politically are dead set against the boogeyman potential dictator when their righteousness gives every indication itself of becoming that very same thing they purport to abhor.]

It's a "loosey goosey" world someone once told me. Yet another example, by the way, of some asshole or other telling me how things are when I was an asshole telling how things should be. Alas, one man's garbage is another man's Prune Danish. One man's supposed celebration of who knows what-the-fuck — diversity? — is another man's blasphemy.

Surely the ones who staged that spectacle had to know there would very likely be a rather expected interpretation of the little convo Our Savior had with His bruhs. No? Really! So, my read is that there was a little stick-it-up-your-ass going on there. And, by the looks of the group, probably some actual such sticking it up after the tableau. But, hey, that's okay. We live in an anything-goes, relativistic post-modern world. If you don't like it, then there's something wrong with you! I wanna be me! Don't tell me how I should be. What am I, you ask? Just what you see; nothing more. Certainly what I say I am. Really? So, if I'm feeling a little girly so I can use the ladies locker room? Fuck all those Perennial sages who talk about the Eternal Supreme Reality and the evanescence of the changeful transitory reality and dream essence of the world. I' m getting mine... and, now! And, ladies in the locker room, check what I got out under my towel!

Here we are, in the "dictatorship of relativism". Pope Benedict XVI addressed this some time ago as Cardinal and Dean of the College of Cardinals.

Exerpts from ...

Homily of His Eminence Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger
Vatican Basilica
Monday 18 April 2005

" ... relativism, that is, letting oneself be "tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine", seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.

"All people desire to leave a lasting mark. But what endures? Money does not. Even buildings do not, nor books. After a certain time, longer or shorter, all these things disappear. The only thing that lasts forever is the human soul, the human person created by God for eternity.

"The fruit that endures is therefore all that we have sown in human souls: love, knowledge, a gesture capable of touching hearts, words that open the soul to joy in the Lord. So let us go and pray to the Lord to help us bear fruit that endures. Only in this way will the earth be changed from a valley of tears to a garden of God."

Krishnamurti

Context:
From Madras 1968, Talk 2

Look what is happening in the world: we are being conditioned by society, by the culture in which we live, and that culture is the product of man – there is nothing holy or divine or eternal about culture. And the culture, the society, the books, the radio, all that we listen to, see, the many influences of which we are either conscious or unconscious, all these encourage us to live within a very small fragment of a vast field of the mind.

You go through school, college, and learn a technique to earn a livelihood. For the next sixty years, or perhaps less, you spend your life, your time, your energy, your thought, in that specialised little field. And there is the vast field of the mind. Unless we bring about a radical change in this fragmentation, there can be no revolution at all; there will be modifications, economic, social, so-called cultural, but man will go on suffering, will go on in conflict, in war, in misery, in sorrow, in despair.

I do not know if you read sometime ago, one of the marshals of the Russian army, reporting to the Politburo, said that in the army they were training soldiers under hypnosis — you know what that means? You are put under hypnosis and taught how to kill, how to obey completely, function with complete independence but under a pattern, with the authority of the superior. That is, the culture, society, is doing exactly the same thing to each one. Culture, society, has hypnotised you.

Do please listen to this very carefully – it is not only being done in the army in Russia, but it is being done all over the world. When you read the Gita endlessly, or the Koran, or repeat some mantra, some words endlessly, you are doing exactly the same thing. When you say, 'I am a Hindu, I am a Buddhist, I am a Muslim, a Catholic,' the same pattern is being repeated: you have been mesmerised, hypnotised.

And technology is doing exactly the same thing. You can be a clever lawyer, a first-class engineer or an artist, or a great scientist, but always within the fragment of the total.

I do not know if you see this, not from my description but actually what is taking place. The communists are doing it, the capitalists are doing it, everybody, the parents, the schools, education, is shaping the mind to function within a certain pattern, within a certain fragment. And we are always concerned with bringing about a change within the pattern, within the fragment.

Essential Meditation Instruction

~ Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche ~

Uncontrived naturalness is not something that one does, even though it sounds like you do remain in naturalness, and you avoid fabricating. Actually, it is the opposite of doing. One does not do anything. By repeatedly letting be in the state of uncontrived naturalness, it becomes automatic. Don’t think that there is a long moment between two thoughts that you need to somehow nail down and own. That would not be automatic; it would be fabricated. Rather than improving upon the recognition of your own nature, simply remain completely at ease.

It is a matter of self-existing wakefulness getting used to itself. Do not try to keep the state of naturalness. The state will be self-kept as the natural outcome of your growing familiarity with it. Do not fall into distraction. Short moments, repeated many times. Because of our very strong habit to always do something, the moment of non-doing doesn’t usually last long. In other words, there is no real stability.

We quickly create doubts through conceptual thoughts, wondering, “Is this it?” or “Maybe not?” Our recognition almost immediately slips away. That is just how it is, and there is not much that we can do about that initially. That is why we practice recognizing for short moments, repeated many times. If we do not repeat the recognition of mind essence, we never grow used to it. “Short moments” ensures that it is the real, authentic naturalness.

For a beginner, recognition of the authentic state does not last longer than a short moment. “Many times” means that we need to grow more and more familiar with this state. To be relaxed and let go in the moment of recognizing — that is the most important thing. Then, when the recognition slips away, we can simply repeat it again.

In the beginning, approach the natural state by settling the mind; otherwise our strong negative habits of involvement in thinking this and that keeps the attention very busy, and a multitude of thoughts arise. The starting point is therefore letting go, relaxing, and settling completely. Among the thoughts that arise, remain, and disappear, one tries to keep the quality of relaxing and remaining. That requires effort, and thus is not the effortless natural state. Still it is helpful because when the mind becomes more quiet and settled, it’s easier to recognize what it is that feels quiet, what it is that keeps still. When your mind, your attention, is not so busy, it becomes easier to see that it is not an entity.

Your “Gravity Ace” for “Gravity Czar”!

Looking forward to leading the special sub-section in the newly created Natural Sustainability Initiative of the United States Federal Government office of Health, Education and Welfare.

The Gravity Czar ... leading and designing actionable policies and programs on Gravity related issues relative to health, education, and welfare. And, sustainability.

1.    Health — Adding to the definition of normal and healthy: balance of the Human body in respect to the basic dictates of the Force of Gravity. In anatomical terms, learning to organize the body to be stacked comfortably on the vertical, with symmetries and everything level. Simple, basic Biology; simple, basic Physics.

2.    Education — Introducing “Basic Core Body Usage ” beginning at the early school level curriculum [e.g., standing, sitting, walking ... and, in all things]. Also, providing ergonomic support [e.g., chair design, desk height ... and all other common sense ergonomics].

3.    Welfare — Encouraging people to value living consciously aligned based on recognition of the tangible signals for balance/imbalance vis-a-vis Gravity ... for health, well being, efficiency, productivity, performance, and creativity.

4.     Sustainability — The Force of Gravity is ever present, constant, and universal. Like the elements of sunlight, wind, and the waves Gravity too can be harnessed at a Human lived level. The simple prescription: bodily balance.

Message from Your "Gravity Ace" ...

The Force of Gravity is universal, ever present, and constant. A factor with great potential for human benefit and evolution which has yet to be recognized or enlisted. So there there it's easy to overlook. That is about to change! Talk about sustainability! Let's do it! Who isn't for balance? Balance, at literally the grass roots level. The future awaits! Let's go forward in balance!

Slogan: "Gravity gives you balance and ballast! Use it! It is the Law after all."

PS Your "Gravity Ace" has been an enthusiastic and committed advocate for the simple idea that it's in the nature of things to align your body in balance with the Gravitational field of the Earth. We know this from the anatomical essential design arrangement of the Human body. And, we know this based on the architectural demands of Gravity universally understand from Physics. The science is in, folks. Let's get with it!

Mr. Richard Simmons

My favorite movie star!

I worked at a once famous New York City toy and gift store called Johnny Jupiter. Fun stuff. And, a fun experience. I worked the cash register, and bantered with the customers. Many celebrities.

One very recognizable celebrity was America’s Fitness Guru Himself, the ever electric Mr. Richard Simmons. He is my very most favorite movie star! Ever! And, I never missed an opportunity to say so. Always loudly so the exaggeration was heard by everyone in the store.

When he was in town he would often come in and load up on gifts. He always created a big stir with the customers. I liked to tease him. Sort of like Dave Letterman when they were on speaking terms. (Lover’s quarrel?)

Even in the winter time Richard would emerge from his car with a glittery sports tank top covering up some very short shorts. Very! I had to ask on more than one occasion if he was wearing anything at all under that tank top?

He was always more than happy to interact with the customers. “Mr. Simmons, are you available for autographs?” “Why, yes, I am.” Then I announced in a raised voice — you should know the shop was very, very small — “Attention shoppers, Mr. Richard Simmons will autograph your shopping bag.”

He was beaming.

Then I added “… with every $50 purchase.”

He froze, hands on hips, with the evil eye for me. Yet, it was for laffs. He was hip to it.

PS Today is July 13, 2024 and I'm adding this in tribute to his passing today. RIP, Richard.

Once, as I was handing him his credit card back he clasped my hands and said, "I want you!" I said, "Richard, we'll dance in our hearts!"

I know souls are connected. I don't know if time and circumstance make much of a difference. That is, is any connection stronger than others? Maybe in the immagination only. Isn't it so that God is One? Then, this separation thing that appears to our senses is only an illusion. Like the Sun going down is on account of the world spinning round.

A connection, is a connection. Howsoever you want to parse it.

Today in my dancing heart I'll think of Richard Simmons.

Good question. And, perfectly understandable. A lot of people have the same concern. Even some who have been "Rolfed" say it's painful. What they don't usually mention is that the experience is about pain leaving. Or, that there can be occasional intensity, but not something hurtful. But, as a client you are in charge. Everything proceeds with your permission and acceptance. That's the plain fact.

Have you ever had an experience of pain leaving? Or, moving into a place of discomfort and discovering just out of being willing to go there it transforms from pain to pleasure? Try it, you'll like it.

This will answer the big question to your complete satisfaction. You don't want to miss choosing to do something good for youself out of a simple misunderstanding. Wrong information. Do you?

Okay? Let's unpack the question ...

But it does depend on three things:

What do you mean by is?

What do you mean by Rolfing?

And, what do you mean by painful?

That may sound like a smart-ass answer, but a few things need to be cleared up and given the necessary context. That understanding will settle the question. Promise.

"Is"

What is the "is" in question? What's the "is-sue"?

Your body. Every Human body. Any Human body.

We're talking about the individual Human being and their condition in simple, basic bodily terms. In this case, it's about its condition in respect to how it stacks architecturally. What it takes for that arrangement to live in a normal healthy relationship to the constant and ever present force of Gravity. It's that simple.

Let's take a look. There's  balance, and there's out of balance? Frankly, usually a mix of both. Typical patterns: head forward ... one shoulder higher ... ministry of funny walks.  Those imbalances, though ... ouch! They can be painful. Not to mention the compensations necessary to keep everything together.

How do we look at the body as a structure? What do we look for?

The body has an anatomical design, its natural and healthy architectural arrangment. There is a set of definite relationships of the many segmented parts; that is ... feet, legs, hips, belly, chest, shoulders, hands, arms, neck, head. This arrangment as a whole stacks up and operates under the influence of Gravity. Just like any physical structure on Earth. We know the rules of Gravity for our buildings. Same for the Human body. Vertical, symmetrical, even. Bada bing!

Imbalances often occur. Bad habits, unresolved accidents and traumas, lack of training, no training — we're self-taught mostly [who taught you how to stand, to sit, to walk?] — modelling significant others who may not have been themselves good examples of balance in the makeup of their own bodies.

These arrangements accumulate over time, and unless resolved or corrected, they get set into the fabric of the flesh. Such imbalances report themselves as chronic pains and stress. Limited range, sub-par performance, lack of creativity.

This is what the orginator, Dr. Ida P. Rolf said about that: "Some individuals may perceive their losing fight with gravity as a sharp pain in their back, others as the unflattering contour of their body, others as constant fatigue, yet others as an unrelentingly threatening environment. Those over forty may call it old age. And yet all these signals may be pointing to a single problem so prominent in their own structure, as well as others, that it has been ignored: they are off balance, they are at war with Gravity."

It's plain to see looking at any individual's body in terms of how well it stacks up along the straight line vertical; also looking for necessary symmetries, and levels-evenness front to back.

In summary, the "is" in Rolfing is your body and it's alignment in respect to the dictates of Gravity.

"Rolfing"

Rolfing is a legal service mark name held by the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute. It's one of the schools in the field known as Structural Integration. While the question was put regarding "Rolfing" this answers for the entire field of Structural Integration.

Structural Integration is a definitive and peerless approach to Human balance. Unique in that its main goal is to balance the body with the Gravitational field of the Earth. As such. Sure, anything you do that's good for you contributes to balance. But, bodily balance as such, that's the whole Enchilada in Structural Integration. While we have the innate ability to heal and become whole, other than Structural Integration there is no other formal method designed to address whole body balance along the lines of the demands of Gravity. Repeating ... as such.

Dr. Rolf, put it this way: "This is the gospel of Rolfing®: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of Gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself."

As is well known, the Human body takes its shape over time through lived experience. On average it's a random bag. We arrive at adulthood with a mix of balance and imbalance fixed into our flesh.

Balance is normal and healthy. Imbalances require compensations. "Dis-ease." These, unless resolved, set in and we find ourselves living in patterns which are inefficient, limiting performance and creativity, and sapping vital energy to maintain. Ouch! That's painful! Yet, we can be seduced to accepting this as "Just the way I am". That there is no alternative.

Well ...

Good News! The Human body has a plastic quality. It has taken the shape you're in, and it can be reshaped.

You may be wondering if that's the "painful" part. The reshaping. Stay tuned. No problemo.

Structural Integration offers individualized assistance to bring the body to a naturally effortless, graceful upright stance; with ease, flexibility, and fluidity. As Dr. Rolf put it, "So you should be easy in your harness".

So much more could be said, but this should suffice. When you decide to do something constructive to bring this kind of balance into your life, all your other questions can be answered. You can add a comment/question below this post.

So now, let's talk about the Elephant in the room.

"Painful"

"Just what do I have to do today to get you into a balanced body?"

Most people look at things like Structural Integration as a therapy. I got a problem; I need it fixed. I've tried everything, maybe this'll do it? With medical attention and therapies typically something is done to you. You're a passive recipient. You take your medicine. You take the shot. Get a procedure done to you. Go under the knife.

Strutural Integration is a system using manual touch and guided self-movement. Rather than "fixing" a symptom, chronic problems get resolved out of fostering that head to toe balance in the whole body.  And, the big difference is that in terms of dealing with "painful" in Structural Integration you are in control*

If at any time the contact in a session of Structural Integration is unacceptable, for any reason — whether it be the manual touch itself or the movement instruction —  the process works best when you speak up for yourself. Then the practitioner can change the pace, ease up, slow down, or stop. Net, net ... you are in control. It's your body after all. Your limits are always respected.

That should settle the question on "painful".

But maybe a little more about what is pain. It's a big subject.

We all know pain. It can vary in intensity. An itch, temporary annoyance, a twinge, a chonic persistent ache, to a stop-the-world-I-want-to-get-off 10 on a 10 point scale.

Pain is first a physical sensation. Yet, we give it meaning, have pictures for it. Have stories that tell how it got there. Have situations, places and people who trigger painful feelings. In other words, pain comes packaged. There's the physical felt sense, and the psychological/mental and emotional components too. Getting rid of pain sometimes depends on where to open that package.

This is important to mention since Structural Integration is what's called a "somatic" method. As such, it addresses the whole Human being, but grounded in Anatomy and Physics. There may be a psychological/emotional component but we can get our hands on the body. Knock on wood. Balance the body, balance the mind. The body/mind apparatus is a unity; it all goes together.

*Structural Integration is taught in schools recognized by the International Association of Structural Integrators. An important distinction about this approach is that it is not a therapy. That said, yes, bringing a higher order of balance into the makeup of the Human body may have therapeutic effects. But, the work is a teaching. A training, to learn to live in balance in tangible, and noticeable ways. This is something you take away from the process. As an experience. It's not just intellectual, conceptual. It's perceptual. You own it much in the same way you own how to ride a bike, swim, juggle. Or anything else you've learned to do, and now it's set in muscle memory.

And, since the method is instructional, you participate. You learn. You put in effort. That's very different from many of the things you can do for yourself therapeutically.

It takes doing. An effort on your part.

So, what are you waiting for?

THE SINGLE SUFFICIENT REMEDY

"In prison Khenpo Mรผnsel Rinpoche
taught me this:

"The extent of your realization will be known when you encounter difficult circumstances. You will not know the extent of your realization when things go well."

When you find yourself in a troublesome situation, when you are in great pain, when an intense emotion arises, only then will you know where you are at with practice.

He added:

"Adverse circumstances will reveal your hidden faults." If you are able to hold awareness unwaveringly during such a time, and thus if you are not carried away by the force of the emotion, it is a sign that you have gained experience in practice.

If you were to practice mindful awareness with great diligence for just a month, if you were to recognize even the slightest thought and not allow your mind to wander off into delusion for that time, even in such a short time you would witness great changes.

Fierce afflictions would not faze you so much any more, because you would have gained personal experience in observing the illusory play.

There is in fact just one remedy necessary — mindful awareness.

It is the single sufficient remedy that transforms difficulties inside and out."

๐Œ๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก

Yesterday, Sunday June 30, was the last day of Pride Month.

I have previously been critical over how the rainbow image has been appropriated by the LBGTQ+. I won't get into a wrambling thing about that except to say that the rainbow is for everyone. But, since you started it [!] — that being, how I have a few things to say about a few things — also wondering who the frickin' frick settled on "identity" solely about what you got down there, how you feel about it, and what you like to do with it?

Please just look into the Yoga Sutras to get the real slim shady on "identity".

Look, do what you do. No problemo. But ... let's not leave "identity" on the LGBTQ+ shelf. Ironically, it's like we've kept the matter of one's True Identity in the closet. Booyah!

Okay. So ... yesterday.

After the farmers market we stopped by the local fromagerie. That's French for "cheese store"; but where we live it also means paying above $40 per pound for some rare specialtites; of which, there are several. Somebody's proud alright ... proud of the cheese they cut.

So ...

The door to the shop has a glass insert behind which greeted us with a "Pride" flag. Full on. Fine. I will say we did have a gay time browsing and selecting from what looked like thousands of offerings. And, we're using "gay" here in it's original meaning, not in the once pejorative and/or the switcherood, positively reappropriated meaning.

On leaving though ... it turned out that that rainbow flag covered the entire door. So there I was fumbling with that flag looking for the door latch for to turn to get on my way home with my veggies and cheeses.

And, that right there pretty much summarizes my take on the pride month. Do what you're gonna do, howsoever you choose. But, do you have to be so in my face about it? And, while you're at it, don't be such an asshole that misses what's Real for your enthusiasm for the seductive phantasmagoria.

And ... speaking on identity, try this in a CLICK.

And ... more!

And ... then some!
