Dear Madame De Gaulle. Like her husband, le General, she was a conservative. Even a bit of a prude, some would even say. 

She spoke only a little English.

Imagine the surprise and shock when an American reporter once asked her what was her most cherished thing in the world, and she replied, “Ha-PEE-nis!”


Of course, knowing the French — and who knows what goes on behind closed doors  she may have also been fond of le General’s nose.
